Jazz Band

The BMS Jazz Band is an after-school, volunteer ensemble that consists of 7th and 8th grade students. Participation is completely optional for those students that wish to perform, but it is highly recommended that once a student commits to playing they attend all rehearsals and performances.  

It is a TON of fun anyways, so once your student joins, they will be hooked!

Students that perform on the following instruments (primary or secondary) are encouraged to try jazz band:

Alto Sax

Tenor Sax

Bari Sax

Trumpet

Trombone

Guitar (Bass/Electric)

Piano

Percussion (Drum Set/Keyboards)

BMS Jazz Band Schedule FALL 2025

Jazz band will be back! Participation is completely optional for those students that wish to perform, but it is highly recommended that once a student commits to playing they attend as many rehearsals as possible and our performance(s). Furthermore, practice outside of rehearsal will be needed in order to fully succeed! We will be offering ONE jazz band but holding rehearsal 2 mornings per week! Students are asked to commit to at least one rehearsal per week, and both rehearsals the week of our Holiday Concert.

It is a lot of fun! Students in this group tend to have a different experience than their

normal band hour.

Most instruments are allowed in our middle school jazz program. NOTE: If students are

learning a secondary instrument, they will need to learn this INDEPENDENTLY and be

READY for all rehearsals and performances!

Please Note: Due to larger band sizes, Students will be asked to perform on their

NORMAL band instrument OR a cross WIND instrument. Students who play a

wind instrument for normal band class are asked to NOT perform percussion.

Please see Mr. J if interested in piano and not a percussionist.

There will be a sign-up sheet posted in the front of the main band room. Please sign-up

no later than September 17th, 2025.

Fall 2025 BMS Jazz Schedule

All Rehearsals will be held in the BMS Band Room. Rehearsals will be held from 7:05am to 7:35am. 

Students may be dropped off and be picked up at the Band/Orchestra room through the side door in the AM student drop-off loop. The side doors of the band room will be open at 6:50am.

REHEARSALS

September: 23, 25, 30

October: 2, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, 30

November: 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25

December: 2, 4

PERFORMANCES

December 4th - 5/6G and BMS Jazz Band Concert - 6:30pm

More performances may be added with advanced notice.

Fall Jazz Sign-ups...

...Are posted in the band room! All interested students should sign-up by Monday, September 22nd. Jazz band is OPTIONAL, held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:05am to 7:35am starting September 23rd. Attached is a formal schedule and it is suggested that students attend at least ONE rehearsal per week.
