Our first playing day will be Monday, August 31. Students may bring in their instruments to school before then to store in their band locker. Students who used a school owned instrument last year will be provided with an instrument again this year.

Please see the attachment for supply prices if students would like to purchase items such as reeds, valve oil, cork grease, or swabs from Mrs. Koella.

Below you will find our concert and event schedule for the year. These nights are a wonderful way to celebrate student progress and learning. Please remember that all concerts are an academic requirement of the class, unless noted as optional. If a conflict arises please reach out to Mrs. Koella at least one week in advance to work out a solution - every effort will be made to support students in all of their interests while fulfilling their academic commitments. 

Concert dress is the following:

• Completely black shoes

• Black socks

• Black bottoms that fully cover the legs. If a skirt does not hit below the knees please wear opaque tights or leggings.

• White top that covers the stomach and shoulders

• Please avoid sweatpants, sweatshirts, black jeans, and anything that is not considered professional wear.

It is important that students present themselves well on concert day but please do not feel like you have to spend a lot of money on a concert uniform! If you have financial concerns in regards to getting a uniform please reach out.

We will again be using binders to keep all students organized and keep rehearsals running efficiently. Students can use their binders from last year, or use the links below to purchase the items they will need. Students will need their binder on our first playing day, Monday, August 31. If there are issues obtaining these materials please reach out.

• 1” (or larger) 3-Ring Binder (with front sleeve)

• Page Protectors

• Snap In Pencil Pouch

• Dividers

• 2 Pencils (any kind, to keep in binder, specifically for use in band)

This year we will be doing fewer Chromebook activities and more pencil and paper activities, so an organized binder and pencils are essential to success.

Solo and Ensemble

Ensembles

• All students in an ensemble must attend in order to receive a rating. Students should choose a group they know they can rely on to work hard, rehearse numerous times together, and show up on the performance day.

Music

• Mrs. Koella will help students select music. Students should plan on beginning to practice this music regularly as soon as they get it so they have a better chance of success. 

• If your student has a piece in mind they would like to play please check with Mrs. Koella that it is an appropriate selection for the event. 

• Students will need to sign up for 2 coaching sessions with Mrs. Koella before their performance: 1 in the initial rehearsing stage, and 1 in the final touches stage. Students will be able to sign up for times before school, during lunch, or select days after school. This schedule will come out at a later date.

Registration and Cost

• Registration, the signed form below,  and payment is due by Friday, January 31. 

• $15 per solo, plus accompanist cost

• $10 per member of an ensemble

• Please make checks out to Hudsonville Public Schools or pay with cash. 

• If the cost is prohibitive please talk with Mrs. Koella so we can work out a solution!
