The Hudsonville Bands booth at the Hudsonville Fair is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we need your help to fill our remaining 300 slots! Students, parents, family members, friends are all welcome to work our booth!
Mr. VanderWall is a Hudsonville native, attending Bauer Elementary and graduating from HHS in 1993 and then attending Grand Valley State University. He has also taught in the district for his entire career, first starting in middle school and now in high school. His wife also teaches at Alward Elementary and his 3 kids have graduated from the district.
Mr. VanderWall is a percussionist. Outside of school he enjoys watching movies, traveling, walking, and spending time with his family.
Mrs. Koella directs 6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands at Riley Street Middle School. In the fall she is also the Assistant Director of the Laker Marching Band at Grand Valley State University. She was previously an instrumental music teacher in Denver, Colorado teaching and designing curriculum for band, guitar, and rock band. She has also taught beginning, middle school, high school, and marching band in Cedar Springs and Grand Rapids where her groups achieved high ratings at MSBOA District Festival and Solo and Ensemble.
Mrs. Koella graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2017 with a degree in Music Education with Performance Honors on the clarinet. During that time she performed in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, recorded a CD under the direction of Col. Lowell Graham, and performed and collaborated with Early Music professors from Indiana University on the classical era clarinet. She graduated with a Masters Degree in Music Education from the American Band College in 2024. She continues to perform with the Vintage Parlor Orchestra and Beer City Winds.
Outside of the band room Mrs. Koella loves traveling, hiking, kickboxing, and eating ice cream no matter what the weather is outside. Mrs. Koella lives in Hudsonville with her husband Nate, their two cats Fred and Louise, and Bernese Mountain Dog Mabel.
Mr. Jacobs is a Hudsonville native and enjoys teaching in his home district. After graduating from Grand Valley State University he taught in Grand Rapids Public Schools and Mt. Morris Consolidated Schools in Mt. Morris, Michigan. He is married to a music teacher and they have 5 children.
Outside of school Mr. Jacobs loves to play his trumpet, fish, swim, kayak, and spend time with his family.
